If you've ever been to see Jimmy at A Dark Cloud, you'll know that my art is incomparable to the talent that is Jimmy. His art is thought out, detailed and beautiful and his tattoo style is clean, unique and all of his own. Check out his work HERE. That is why I am incredibly honoured to be able to display some of my newest "zero waste" art within the walls of his studio located at 121 Percy St. When I pulled up to hang my art, he was skateboarding outside - which if you take the time to meander inside, you'll find his half pipe in the back. Jimmy has two kids of his own, so while I took the time to hang my art, he had no problem making friends with my son.
Chinatown Remixed kicks off tomorrow (September 19, 2015). We'll have our art up until October 9th, 2015. Make sure you stop by his shop and get a stamp for a chance to win two round trip Porter tickets. See the deets HERE.
You'll also find me live painting with Gloria Guns of Scary Bear Soundtrack at the Shanghai parking lot at 7pm. Garbage bag dress and all. Come see what I create with 8 months of garbage in 40 minutes.
Art is a journey in which you discover yourself. This is the process that Mailyne describes her work as an artist. She is simply on a journey to discover herself.
Mailyne Briggs aka Mai is a multidisciplinary, visual artist, photographer, video producer, writer and entrepreneur from the Philippines. She has been creating since she could remember, using it as a form of self-expression and a way to overcome trauma and depression brought on from child abuse.
Her introduction to the art community was through painting, surrounded by her graffiti friends who influenced her palettes with bright colours and the idea that art was a form of communication.
She has been living Zero Waste since February 2015, avoiding plastic and drastically reducing her consumption in an effort to live more minimally. She is currently exploring creative ways to implement the garbage she has produced before Zero Waste life while spreading conversations about global waste through her live art performances with Scary Bear Soundtrack.
The current body of work she has been creating are from items meant for trash, from her art students that meant to discard their art work, from her jar of waste and from her original supplies pre-Zero Waste life in an effort to divert as much as possible from the landfill.
As an artist, Mailyne practices with all mediums and works from the heart allowing her muse to lead her. Her source of inspiration is through people, cities, dreams, nature and her own personal experiences.
Mailyne is available for commissions and collaborations.
