Hello, I’m Sandra.
I run an online consignment shop; Econsignment Shop. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had an interest in fashion. A few years ago, I was shopping almost on a weekly basis and most of that shopping (if not all) was done at fast fashion stores. I never once stopped and ask myself why I shopped so often or what were the impacts of my habits. However over the years, the shopping became less frequent as I starting piecing facts together, thanks to social media, Youtube videos and documentaries. I started learning not only the human rights aspect of the fashion industry but the environmental impacts as well.
Saying that I cared about the environment but still shopped at fast fashion stores didn’t make much sense to me so I eventually stopped. I started thinking about how much clothing is produced and how much we are consuming. I also learned that I was often mindlessly shopping, trying to feed my wants and barely thinking if I really needed these items I was buying. This led me to think of ways to recycle clothing and starting an online consignment shop seemed like a good option. My goals are not only to resell items in good condition so others can enjoy wearing but I also want to find ways to repurpose items that are not fit for resell.
And in addition to all of this, I want to educate consumers on the impact of shopping at fast fashion retailers throughout my blog and social media. I hope that sharing information will make others think twice about their consumption of clothing and with time, will want to make an effort to choose a more ethical and sustainable way to enjoy fashion!
