Zero Waste Art Workshop with Ability First Ottawa

I first met Christina at A.R.T. In Action's A.R.T NIGHT and after the event, she asked me if I'd volunteer to do an art workshop with Ability First. Of course the answer was yes.

"The core goal of AFO is to inspire others with disabilities to reach their goals and fulfill their potential. Our program works with people from 10 to 70 years of age providing mentoring, employment skill opportunities and workshops, social programs, as well as recreational and creative activities."

We met at Collab Space this afternoon, where I was immediately greeted with smiles and the sounds of beat boxing from a gentleman named Brad. I felt at home.

Our materials of the day were: cranberry juice, turmeric, activated charcoal and chlorophyll on canvas tote bags. The cloudy and cold day had me missing the Philippines so I explained to them that we'd be painting palm trees. Here's what mine looked like:

It was a lot of fun to see everyone's work of art come to life and although I thought I was supposed to be teaching just one class, the vote's are in that I'll for sure be coming back to teach another one again soon. Looking forward to it!
