ART DISPLAY AND LIVE ART PERFORMANCE BY: MAILYNE aka MAI
WITH BACKGROUND MUSIC BY: GLORIA GUNS
Mai will create a work of art through live painting, using only materials made from garbage she's produced in the last few months (which currently can fit into one mason jar), while Gloria Guns will accompany her live painting with live music that she has specially composed for this project, featuring waste reduction themes. Guns will create a soundscape using synths, loop pedals, and drum machines, and audio footage of news reports to accompany Mai's live painting.
Mailyne Briggs aka Mai is a multi-disciplinary, visual artist born in the Philippines, adopted at age 4 and raised in Canada. She owns a social enterprise called Dream Love Grow providing video production, photography and creative services. An artist since she could remember, Mailyne began painting as a form of self-expression and a way to overcome trauma and depression brought on from child abuse.
Her introduction to the art community was primarily through her graffiti friends, influencing her palettes with bright colours and their freedom of communication. Mailyne works with all mediums but mainly uses acrylic and mixed media often achieving her final piece with her fingers, hands, brushes or
anything with texture.
She finds inspiration through her son, the people around her, cities, dreams and her own personal experiences. Mailyne has been living a Zero Waste lifestyle since February 2015, blogging about the journey at: www.adreamlivedgreener.wordpress.com.
Living Zero Waste has proven to be a challenge as an entrepreneur and an artist. In an effort to deflect as much waste from the landfill and spread conversations on global waste issues, she is in the process of finding creative ways to utilize the remainder of her art supplies and perform live art with her jar of garbage she has produced since February.
Her art pieces she creates today are symbolic of her inner journey within and the process that is unfolding as she strives to learn about herself, challenge herself and find balance between her soul and her ego.
