Dream Love Grow was founded In 2007, by multidisciplinary artist, writer and entrepreneur, Mailyne aka Mai. Born in the Philippines, she was adopted at age 4 and brought to Canada where she began a lifelong journey of self-discovery through various forms of artistic mediums. Her skills and hands on experience make up her current business to this day.
Struggling with depression brought on by the trauma of child abuse, Mailyne wrote and wrote before eventually stumbling upon painting, which became the stepping stone to healing. Buddhism, Eckhart Tolle and many hours of art, writing and creativity, has shaped Mailyne's life today and is what she believes saved her life.
After selling multiple paintings at shows across Ottawa, and feeling somewhat uneasy about it, Mailyne had her first large art commission in 2007 where she decided she needed to find a way to give back with her gifts and talents. She recognized the sacrifice her biological Mom had made in order for her to have a better life and felt it was her purpose to help others. She decided to donate $50 of her first commission to Oxfam Unwrapped and to this day, continues to donate to charities, non-profits and individuals, organizing small acts of kindness that she calls Love Projects.
In 2010, Mailyne returned to the Philippines to complete a four month internship at an L.A. film studio operating out of Cebu. After completing her internship, she was hired on as a Production Coordinator and Executive Assistant where she worked with industry professionals on commercials, reality t.v. shows, documentaries and feature films. There she gained a true love for film-making and continues to pursue this passion today as a video editor, producer and writer.
In 2014, she, along with a fellow artist, founded A Real Thought (A.R.T.) In Action, a registered non-profit that provides free art workshops and programs to youth ages 14-29 that are facing multiple barriers in Ottawa and Nunavut.
Mailyne studied Small and Medium Enterprise Management (now called this) at Algonquin College School of Business and has been a mentor for aspiring business owners from all walks of life. She regularly mentors youth entrepreneurs through the Launch! program at the Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre in Ottawa and has been for over three years. She has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a strong desire to help others and a passion for learning.
She finds inspiration for her various forms of creativity and work through conversations, people, travel, her son and daily moments in life.
